MANILA – Model Deniece Cornejo arrived at the Taguig Regional Trial Court on Tuesday morning after she voluntarily surrendered herself to authorities Monday afternoon. Cornejero arrived at around 7:45 a.m. and she was accompanied by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG). Cornejo, who spent the night at the PNP-CIDG’s Anti-Transnational Crime Unit, is facing serious illegal detention and grave coercion charges filed against her in connection with the mauling of actor and TV host Vhong Navarro. Serious illegal detention is a non-bailable offense but her lawyer said they will file a petition for bail in court because the evidence against Cornejo is weak. The Taguig RTC will also hear today the motion filed by Cornejo’s co-accused, businessman Cedric Lee and Simeon Raz, to remain detained at the National Bureau of Investigation office in Manila. The two cite security reasons why they prefer the NBI cell Instead of the Taguig City jail. Reports by Doland Castro and Carolyn Bonquin, ABS-CBN News
