House Dems to Launch
Inquiry into Trump
Affair Accusations This fall, the House Judiciary Committee
will conduct a major investigation into hush
money paid to two women who have made
claims of affairs with Trump. The investigation will focus
on the president's alleged
involvement in the payments. The women involved
are adult-film star Stormy
Daniels and former Playboy
model Karen McDougal. Before the 2016 election, Daniels
was paid $130,000 and McDougal
was paid $150,000 to not reveal the alleged
affairs before Americans headed to the polls. Trump's former personal lawyer Michael
Cohen, who is currently serving a
three-year prison sentence on campaign
finance charges, oversaw the payments. When asked by a reporter
in 2018 if he knew about the
payments made to Daniels,
Trump responded, "No." Cohen said the payment to McDougal was
made "in coordination with and at the direction"
of Trump. With more than 130 members calling
for official impeachment proceedings
to begin, the inquiry could move the
House closer to the impeachment process.
