Fifteen million, or 7 % of American adults, have Social Anxiety Disorder. Social Anxiety Disorder, also known as Social Phobia, is a disorder characterized by anxiety in a social setting. The person suffering from social anxiety is afraid of being judged by others. They also suffer from physical symptoms that may cause them more embarrassment such as blushing, trembling and a shaky voice. Social Phobia arises from a significant event of either genetical or environmental factors such as family problems, negative experiences in childhood, etc. Social Anxiety Disorder symptoms may change over a period of time. They may flare up if a person is under a lot of stress! Social Anxiety Disorder is a fully treatable condition that can be overcome with either therapy, medication or proper emotional support.
