AFP spokesman explains why armed struggle futile
  • 5 years ago
MANILA - The spokesperson of the Armed Forces believes some members of the New People's Army could surrender now that their leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon have been arrested. Major General Domingo Tutaan told ANC the rebels would probably be convinced to lay down their arms. Tutaan said the peace process remains the priority of the AFP but they cannot allow the NPA to commit violence. "Since they, the very people espousing armed struggle are now behind bars, are now facing the criminal justice system, probably these would open up their hearts, the minds and their hearts, to give up the armed struggle. It's an exercise in futility," he said. "Even if they go another so many years from now, they will never win in this kind of armed struggle. Why? Because the Filipinos love a democratic form of government." ANC, March 25, 2014
