Real, Chelsea through Champions League quarters
  • 5 years ago
MANILA, Philippines – Real Madrid stormed into the Champions league quarterfinals with a club record 9-2 aggregate success. Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice in a 3-1 victory at home against Schalke 04. It was Real’s biggest aggregate Champions League win since the 2011-12 season. Ronaldo’s double took his Champions League haul this season to 13, surpassing his previous best of 12 from the last campaign. He has 41 in all competitions for Real, the La Liga leaders, and is one short of the Champions League record of 14 set by Barcelona forward Lionel Messi in 2011-12. Meantime, Chelsea also reached the Champions League last eight with a 3-1 aggregate win against Galatasaray. Eden Hazard, Oscar Ramires, and Willian were all on duty to ensure that striker Didier Drogba’s return to his old club was a forgettable one, leading Chelsea to a 2-0 home victory. Chelsea and Real Madrid join Barcelona, Paris St-Germain, Atletico Madrid, and holders Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals. -- Mornings @ ANC, March 19, 2014.
