More lawmakers want Napoles in regular jail
  • 5 years ago
MANILA - More congressmen are backing a proposal to put alleged pork scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles in a regular jail. Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas said there is no more basis to place Napoles under heavy security at Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna since she has already denied any involvement in the alleged P10 billion pork barrel scam and is not under security threat. He said Napoles should be placed in a regular jail after she was slapped with a charge of serious illegal detention by pork scam whistle-blower Benhur Luy. Napoles is accused of masterminding the pork barrel scam, which saw billions of pesos in priority development assistance funds (PDAF) being funneled to fake non-government organizations that she set up. Whistle-blowers have said the funds went to ghost projects or underdeliveries of projects as well as kickbacks to government officials and legislators. At least 38 people including Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. are facing plunder, bribery and malversation charges before the Office of the Ombudsman after being linked to the scam. Citizens' Battle Against Corruption (CIBAC) party-list Rep. Sherwin Tugna said Napoles should still be secured even if she is transferred to a regular jail. Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone said Napoles' transfer to a regular jail is dependent on the court that has jurisdiction over the case. RADIO DZMM, February 27, 2014
