Meralco, DOE to defend rate hike at SC
The Supreme Court will hold the second round of oral arguments on Meralco's rate increase Tuesday afternoon. It's the respondents' turn to defend the P4.15 per kilowatt hour rate hike, which is the subject of a temporary restraining order that will expire on February 23. The legal team of Meralco is led by retired Associate Justice Florentino Feliciano. The main position of petitioners in the first hearing in January 21 was that Meralco is guilty of price manipulation, which led to the spike in generation charge and subsequently passed on to consumers. -- ANC Dateline Philippines, February 4, 2014
