Enrile wants David Bangayan cited for contempt

MANILA - Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile is asking the Senate committee on agriculture to cite for contempt businessman David Bangayan for allegedly lying under oath during a Senate hearing on Monday. During the hearing, Enrile again questioned Bangayan why he cited in his original libel complaint against Jesus Arranza that he is David Bangayan aka David Tan. Bangayan, however, said his lawyer made an error in the filing of his original complaint and that he was merely pointing out that a newspaper had referred to him as Bangayan alias David Tan. "I signed David Bangayan and I am not David Tan," he said. This prompted Enrile to make a motion against Bangayan for allegedly lying. Sen. Cynthia Villar said the committee will decide during the next hearing if Bangayan will be held in contempt or not. ANC, February 3, 2014
