'Rak of Aegis' shows how communities are coping with floods

MANILA, Philippines – The Filipino rock musical “Rak of Aegis,” inspired by American Broadway musical and movie “Rock of Ages,” is getting rave reviews for showing the lives of people coping with floods. The setting is somewhere in Manila’s slums, where people are forced to deal with routine flooding brought by typhoons and poor sewage systems. Songs from the popular local rock band “Aegis” were used to lighten the mood without diverting from the main theme of the story. Cast and crew from the Philippine Education Theater Association hope the show will spark renewed talks on disaster mitigation in the Philippines. News Now, ANC, February 2, 2014.
