8 'acetylene gang' members nabbed in QC
MANILA – Eight people were arrested in Quezon City on Tuesday midnight after attempting to break into a pawnshop in Barangay Commonwealth using acetylene torches. Seven men and a woman renting an apartment located near the pawnshop were caught with digging equipment such as acetylene tank and hydraulic jack by joint forces from the Quezon City Police, National Capital Region Police Office, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and Cordillera Police. Police discovered a 20-meter tunnel connecting the apartment to the pawnshop. According to Jenny Alvior, a man who introduced himself as an engineer rented the apartment last November 21 and later on offered to rent another unit. Alvior, however, said she refused to lease another unit to the suspects after her sister overheard one of the suspects about the plan to leave the apartment without notice. Police said the suspects have also been involved in similar cases in Mountain Province and other areas in the Cordillera Administrative Region. – report from Carolyn Bonquin, ABS-CBN News
