MRT-LRT common station project to be bid out

The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) will bid out a P1.4 billion contract to build a connecting station for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) systems near the Trinoma Mall in North EDSA. The DOTC hopes to bid the contract out within the first half of the year so that construction can begin by the third quarter. Target completion for the project is the third quarter of 2015. Aside from connecting the LRT-1 that runs from Baclaran to Monumento and the MRT-3 that traverses EDSA, this common station would also link to the proposed MRT-7 of San Miguel Corporation, which would traverse Commonwealth Avenue, all the way up to Lagro, and Fairview. The Sy group's SM Prime Holdings had earlier paid P200 million for the naming rights of the common station. -- ANC News Now, January 15, 2013
