Football great Eusebio passes away

MANILA, Philippines – Football great Eusebio has passed away. The legendary Portuguese striker died Sunday after suffering a heart attack. He was 71 years old. Eusebio, whose full name was Eusebio Da Silva Ferreira, was the European Footballer of the Year in 1965. But he earned global acclaim a year later, when he became the top scorer in the 1966 World Cup and helped Portugal reach the semis. Knowns as the “Black Panther,” Eusebio scored more than 300 goals in the European League, where he played for Benfica, and served as the club’s ambassador in his later years.
