Colombia cancels football game due to violence
  • 5 years ago
MANILA, Philippines – Authorities in Colombia announced that an upcoming first-division match in Bogota would be cancelled following a spate of killings in the capital city against rival football teams. Violence has long been a part of Colombia’s heated first division football league. At the eve of a match between Medellin's Atletico Nacional and Bogota's Millonarios, a young football fan rooting for the Medellin team was killed by a rival fan. Days before, the father of another fan was killed as he was protecting his son from attackers from a rival side. A third fan, reportedly from the Millonarios, was also killed in wave of pre-match violence. Local media reports say those killed were targeted for wearing the team shirts of their clubs. -- Mornings @ ANC, September 25, 2013
