MANILA, Philippines – France won its maiden basketball title in a major competition after overwhelming Lithuania, 80-66, in the European Championship final. Thriving on long-range shooting and an exciting performance by Portland Trail Blazers guard Nicolas Batum, the French finally won the championship after finishing as runners-up in 1949 and 2011. Batum’s efforts were complemented by fellow NBA players, Boris Diaw scored 15 points and Tony Parker added 12. During their homecoming, the French basketball team was mobbed by fans.
