Floyd says sorry to De La Hoya over meme

MANILA, Philippines – American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. has apologized over an internet meme posted on his Instagram account which mocked Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya. The meme was a photo of a red-eyed De la Hoya with the words “Oscar: I gave Canelo the wrong blueprint. I was high.” The photo was a tirade on De La Hoya’s vocal backing of Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who lost badly to Mayweather when they fought last Saturday. De La Hoya was recently admitted to a rehabilitation facility for substance abuse. Mayweather deleted the photo from his Instagram account after a few hours. In a statement, Mayweather apologized to De La Hoya’s family, adding he has no ill will towards anyone, and only seeks positivity in his life and others. -- Mornings @ ANC, September 18, 2013
