Binay's truce efforts fail in Zamboanga City

MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay is saddened as his efforts to free the hostages in Zamboanga City have failed. On Saturday, Binay flew to the city to iron out details of a ceasefire agreement that he announced on Friday night. But fighting erupted anew by the morning. There are reports that Nur Misuari wanted the government to allow his men to walk away in exchange for the hostages’ freedom – a demand that was supposedly rejected by President Aquino. Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said that there cannot be a ceasefire while Misuari’s men keep on shooting at soldiers. News Now, ANC, September 15, 2013
