There were tense scenes as pro and anti-Brexit campaigners came face-to-face at a demonstration near Downing Street in London.

Thousands of demonstrators had gathered outside the street where Prime Minister Boris Johnson has his official home, to protest against his decision to prorogue parliament, and for for longer than usual, just weeks before the UK is due to leave the EU.

A much smaller group of right-wing pro-Brexit demonstrators were also in the area. After tempers flared, some of them were escorted away by police.
