Brexit LIVE- Backstop breakthrough! Irish ready to hear Boris's new plan for border

FURTHER cracks in the unity of the European Union have appeared, with Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister Simon Coveney stressing his willingness to work with the UK Government on an alternative to the much-criticised backstop plan for the Irish border - with one former Irish diplomat suggesting Mr Coveney "may be preparing for a climbdown".
Meanwhile deputy Labour leader Tom Watson has joined to fight to stop Boris Johnson proroguing Parliament by teaming up with Tory former prime minister Sir John Major and leading anti-Brexit activist Gina Miller. The EU’s inflexible approach has seen Brussels dig its heels in over the proposal, which is hugely controversial because it would tie the UK to many EU rules and regulations indefinitely. However, Mr Coveney said: "We all want to get a deal but, at the moment, nothing credible has come from the UK government in terms of alternatives to the backstop."
