Chicken Rizala is extremely delicious and authentic Bengali Chicken curry in white gravy. A subtly flavored chicken curry slowly cooked with whole spice like cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf, and dry red chillies was originally invented by the Royal Chefs of Bengal. Ingredients For Marination:
(Serves 4)
- 1 Kg Chicken
- 1 cup Yogurt(beaten)
- 1 tsp Ginger Paste
- 1 tsp Garlic Paste
- 1/2 tsp Black pepper Powder
- 1 tbsp Onion Paste
- Salt

- 1 tbsp Ghee
- 1 tbsp Oil
- 2 Bay Leaves
- 1 inch Cinnamon stick
- 3 Green Cardamoms
- 5 Cloves
- 10 Pepper Corns
- 2 Dried Red Chillies(chopped)
- 3 Onions(grounded)
- 1 tsp Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Ginger Paste
- 4 Green Chillies(slit)
- 1 tsp Cumin Seed Powder
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper Powder
- 2 tbsp Poppy Seed & Cashew Nut Paste
- 2 cups Water
- Salt
- 1/2 tsp Garam Masala Powder
- 1 tsp Sugar
- Saffron Strands
- 1 tsp Kewra water

1. Take chicken in a large bowl. Add beaten yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste, black pepper powder, onion paste, salt and mix it well
- Heat ghee and oil in a clay pot
- Now, add bay leaves, cinnamon stick, cardamoms, cloves, peppercorns, in the clay pot and saute it
- Add chopped dried red chillies, onion paste in the same clay pot and saute it till the color of the onion paste changes
- Now, add ginger & garlic paste, slit green chillies, cumin seed powder, black pepper powder, poppy seed & cashew nut paste and saute it well
- Add the marinated chicken in the clay pot filled with masala's and saute it for 3-5 minutes
- Now, add water to the clay pot along with salt, garam masala powder, sugar and mix it well
- Cover it and cook it for around 15-20 minutes till the chicken is ready
- Once cooked, open the lid and add saffron strands, kewra water
- Mix it and take it out in a serving bowl and serve it hot
