A racehorse's career
In order to access its competitive career, the horse must qualify for the preliminary events, they are open to horses as from 2 years old, only for the trot. Older horses that have not scored in trotting races for a certain period of time will have to take part in re-qualification tests in order to be able to continue participating in the races. The end of a horse's career in France will be around the age of 10, some will receive support from associations. The breeder: He is the first actor in the horse's life. The breeder must imagine the best possible crossbreeding between a mare and a stallion, then monitor the gestation. After each birth, the breeder takes care of the foal's food and growth until it leaves. The coach: He manages the horse's career, he is in charge of the physical and mental preparation entrusted by an owner. He must transform the horse into a competition animal or, in the case of horses already established, maintain its physical condition. The jockey: He is a high level athlete who is required to maintain a strict life discipline to respect the weight rules imposed since he must be able to support his partner in the effort. He is in contact with the horse only a few minutes before the race, the jockey must follow the tactical instructions given by the coach.
