Despite a ban by the National Green Tribunal, illegal coal mining is going on in Meghalaya. A story which was known locally suddenly went international when 15 miners got trapped and died inside a rat-hole mine. The Quint wanted to investigate why mining is still going on in Meghalaya but as it turned out, reporting on mining issues is extremely tough. Journalists are seen as a threat by the mining lobby and activists are lethally attacked.
