Traditional ‘Hingot Yuddha’ Injures 36 Warriors in Madhya Pradesh

Atleast 36 people were injured after participating in the traditional “Hingot Yuddha” (Hingot war), conducted a day after Diwali near Indore. The “Hingot war” is an ancient tradition celebrated by the residents of Gautampura area, situated about 59 kms from the city of Indore.
In this traditional war, warriors from two different groups in the village attack each other with Hingots -- a hollow fruit shell filled with gunpowder and sealed with soil. The fruit infused with gunpowder and soil is then fired up and launched into the sky, which eventually takes the shape of a fireball.
The Hingot war took place between Turra and Kalangi groups near Devnarayan temple in Gautampura. Heavy police were deployed around the war zone to keep the custom under control and ambulances were stationed to transfer the injured warriors.
