The Story Behind Assam Regiment’s ‘Badluram Ka badan’ Dance
  • 5 years ago
The Assam Regiment has been singing this song for over 70 years now. After every ‘Kasam Parade’ during the passing out ceremony at the Assam Regiment’s regimental centre in Shillong, the new recruits sing, dance, and stomp their feet to this song.
But who is this Badluram that they sing of? Like any other Army story, this regimental marching song too has a rich story behind it.

Legend has it, that Badluram was a jawan who died during action during World War 2. His Quarter Master forgot to strike out his name from the list of the recruits and continued to draw rations for him. The extra rations proved to be a blessing in disguise, as they helped the regiment survive when they were surrounded by Japanese soldiers who had cut off their supplies.
The battalion survived; and the song was born as a pay tribute to Badluram, who helped his brothers survive the siege.
