What inspired 'Pacific Rim' monsters

"Pacific Rim" director Guillermo del Toro shares his inspiration for the huge monsters in the movie, which features Manila. The Mexican director also praised the monsters featured in Filipino horror movies such as the tikbalang and the manananggal, calling them similar to the creatures in their films back home.
