UP Diliman's elevated train undergoes test run
  • 5 years ago
MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino conducted a test run of the automated guideway transit (AGT) in UP Diliman. The train is capable of transporting 60 passengers at a time and will traverse the 465-meter concrete elevated track that stretches from the College of Fine Arts up to University Avenue. The AGT is a project of the Department of Science and Technology. The train is designed by Filipino DOST engineers and fabricated locally. It is emission-free and electricity driven. A second AGT, which will be able to carry 120 passengers, will be built in Bicutan, Taguig adjacent to the DOST complex based on the results of the current testing. DOST Secretary Mario Montejo says the technology can be replicated in other areas to help decongest traffic. ANC Dateline Philippines, April 15, 2013
