Since the start of his campaign for prime minister, Boris Johnson threatened the European Union of a no-deal Brexit. According to CNN, he is trying to scare the E.U. into giving him a better Brexit deal but it isn’t working. An E.U. official said: "Ever since article 50 was triggered, we knew no deal was a possibility. That's why we prepared for it long before the U.K.” The biggest problem with the existing deal is the Irish border backstop, which keeps the U.K. tied to the E.U. This backstop is an insurance policy to prevent the return of a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
