Mitch McConnell Rejects Mayors' Plea For Gun Legislation
  • 5 years ago
More than 200 mayors sent a plea to congress to call the Senate back early to consider new gun legislation. According to Reuters, Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell rejected the plea. This comes after mass shootings within 24 hours that left 31 people dead. The legislation mayors hope for would expand background checks for gun sales. They wrote: “Our nation can no longer wait for our federal government to take the actions necessary to prevent people who should not have access to firearms from being able to purchase them.”
