Deputy Defence Minister Liew Chin Tong has called for a consensus within the government, within society on the role of the armed forces and when they should be mobilised.

He said everyone including leaders have to be aware that the armed forces are not sitting aimlessly at the camp and should be deployed for the jobs they are specialised in.

He added that in other countries, the army is seen as a premium organisation.
