Malaysia imposes new tax on sugary drinks to fight obesity

Malaysia has implemented a new sugar tax targeting drinks with excessive amounts of sweeteners.  Since July 1, 2019, manufacturers producing packaged beverages that contain more than a set level of sugar will be charged 40 Malaysian sen (10 US cents) per litre.
