A Nairobi court has dismissed a firearms case against Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

The magistrate made the ruling after investigations revealed that the Migori governor did not obtain his eight firearms illegally as first suspected.

The court heard that the guns had been lawfully acquired.

Joyce Ngadani, the magistrate, directed that Obado’s firearms be restored to him after noting that there was no further evidence to support the ruling.

In late 2018, eight guns were recovered in Obado’s two homes in Nairobi and Migori when the Ethics and Anti-Corruption officers were investigating the alleged misappropriation of Sh2billion county funds. The governor had been arrested and released on a Sh500,000 bond and a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Sh200,000 on November 16, 2018.

Obado’s murder case on Sharon’s death that happened on September 3, 2018 is ongoing.

His co-accused aides include Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero.
