FPI surcharge row: Finance minister says FPIs can consider registering as companies

The government is firm on its stance regarding the surcharge on foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) who are coming in as trusts. Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that FPIs registered as trusts may consider the option of restructuring themselves as companies to avoid the higher surcharge.
