Overcoming Abandonment: The Fear of Being Left Alone

Many people are plagued by the fear of abandonment throughout their lives. The constant worry of being rejected by peers, partners, schools, companies, or entire social circles haunts them. Everyone experiences this anxiety differently and most of us can relate it to thoughts of rejection. For many others, these fears are not fully realized until they enter into a romantic relationship. Extreme dependence on others can actually damage a social relationship. The fear of abandonment cannot be cured as it is not an illness. Fortunately, a person's style of attachment is not fixed. To overcome fear you must get to its core and understand its origin. You must be confident about yourself and your skill, take 100 % responsibility to overcome your weakness. The power is within you to turn this weakness into an opportunity for your personal growth. With time, and if need be, with the help of counselling, you can surely learn to trust again.
