Ohio Anti-Abortion 'Heartbeat' Law Blocked By U.S. Judge

A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction blocking Ohio from enforcing an anti-abortion law, says Reuters. Critics said the law could ban abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy. The judge said the “Heartbeat Protection Act” imposed an “undue burden” on a woman’s constitutional right to obtain a pre-viability abortion. The law was signed by Republican Governor Mike DeWine in April. The law was challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood.
