China is rewriting Hollywood’s blockbusters

This year has been one of the best ever for foreign films in China. Avengers: Endgame hauled in $330 million for its opening weekend in China, the highest ever for a foreign film in the country.

China’s box office is the second biggest in the world, and will probably surpass the US in the coming years.

Hollywood is increasingly looking towards Chinese audiences for revenue, and is trying to make films that will be a hit in China as well as the US.

But since only a few foreign films are allowed in each year, Hollywood is trying to stay away from topics that would irk censors.
