Malaysia bans sea sand exports to Singapore
  • 5 years ago
Reuters today reported that Malaysia has banned the export of sea sand to Singapore. Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is said to have imposed a ban on all sea sand exports in October last year.

Sources said Mahathir was upset that Malaysia's land was being used to increase the size of its wealthier neighbour. He was also concerned corrupt Malaysian officials were benefiting from the secretive business.
