Idukki is the leading producer and exporter of cardamom in Kerala. But the August 2018 floods and landslides destroyed several crops and rendered cardamom fields infertile. The end result? Out of 40,000 cardamom farmer families in Idukki, almost 60% lost their crops, taking away their sole source of income.
