NBC to Pull ‘The Office’
From Netflix in 2021 NBCUniversal announced on June 25 that they would be
moving ‘The Office’ to their upcoming streaming service. Bonnie Hammer, Chairman of NBCUniversal Direct-
to-Consumer and Digital Enterprises, said NBC is
excited to "welcome the gang from Dunder Mifflin.” Their ad-supported streaming service is
expected to launch in 2020, but ‘The Office’
won’t leave Netflix until January 2021. According to an inside source, Netflix was willing
to pay $90 million a year to keep streaming rights
to the show, but NBC offered $100 million. The deal for the nine season show is for five
years of exclusive domestic streaming rights. Netflix, via Twitter ‘The Office’ was Netflix’s most-
watched show in 2018, capturing
7.19% of all Netflix views that year. The show was also streamed for a total
of about 53 billion minutes in 2018.
