Recreational Use of Marijuana
Legalized in Illinois It is the 11th state to pass
legislation of this kind and
the second-most populated. Before cannabis sales launch in January,
state lawmakers are expected to
come up with a tax system. According to the Illinois bill, 30 grams is the limit for state residents to buy and carry. For out-of-towners,
the max amount is 15 grams. In addition to legalizing sales, the bill also
eradicates criminal records related to marijuana. According to 'USA Today,' nearly 800,000 cases revolving around minor pot charges will be expunged. 'USA Today' adds that the
abolishing of these small crimes will be financed by new taxes
on cannabis. The bill also states that money generated from
taxes will go towards
drug treatment programs, drug enforcement and
mental health treatment. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, via statement
