Moon speaks at Sweden’s parliament on issue of peace drive on Korean Peninsula
  • 5 years ago
Our starting point this afternoon,… President Moon Jae-in, on a three-nation tour of the Northern Europe this week is in Sweden today.
One of the major events lined up during his stay there,… is a speech at the Swedish parliament where he will be speaking on the topic of peace.
We now connect live to our presidential correspondent Shin Se-min,… traveling with the president for more.
Se-min,… so what can we expect the president to say?

The overarching theme of President Moon Jae-in’s speech today at the Sweden’s parliament is the ongoing peace drive on the Korean Peninsula.
And although we are still hours away from seeing the South Korean leader on the podium at Sweden's Parliament,… the anticipation is building as we witnessed President Moon make some strong remarks on North Korea-related affairs earlier this week as he tries to kick-start nuclear talks between the related parties.
As for the expectation of what the president may say during the speech,... it’s likely that he will focus on the need for high-level dialogue to deal with the regime's denuclearization and to reinvigorate inter-Korean relations.
Some of the key points for his speech are likely to include the importance of duty and responsibility among all the related parties.
And we have to understand that Sweden is a country that once developed a nuclear weapons program but later decided to scrap its nuclear weapons.
Given the historical background of the Scandinavian country,… we could assume the president will call for an all-round reduction of nuclear activity in the region, putting all sides on the road to a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.
During his eight-day tour of Northern Europe, we've seen President Moon raise issues many wanted answered for weeks -- namely urging Kim Jong-un to hold a fourth summit with him and pressing the U.S. and North Korea to take bold steps and meet again in the near future.
So my guess is that we may see some more of the president’s vision for the peace process today during his speech at the Swedish parliament,… and will make sure to keep a close eye on that.
