Congo Ebola Outbreak Could Take
2 Years to Contain The Democratic Republic of Congo has been enduring an Ebola outbreak since August 1. According to Congo's Ministry of Health, 2,025 probable cases have been identified. Of the 1,931 confirmed cases, 1,357 have died and 552 have recovered. Ebola typically kills 50% of those infected, but the current outbreak has caused deaths in 70% of infected patients. Due to the conflict in the North Kivu province,
over 1 million refugees and displaced people are traveling through the area. This movement is helping the disease spread rapidly. A World Health Organization official reported that the outbreak could take up to two years to resolve.
