Durian fruit sells for US$48,000 at auction in central Thailand

A single durian fruit has sold for 1.5 million baht (US$48,000) at an auction in Nonthaburi, central Thailand. The premium price was paid at the 2019 King of Durian festival, where the luxury durian was singled out for its perfect size, shape and ripeness. The sale smashed the previous year’s record of 800,000 baht (US$26,000).
