Ben Lee "Love is the Great Rebellion" Interview (Part One)
In the midst of Canadian Music Week, the AU's Larry Heath sat down with Sydney's Ben Lee to talk about his Toronto experience so far: "It's interesting, I'm now almost 23 years into my career, so I have a different perspective on playing shows. I find myself able to be much more present and just accept them for that they are, and do my best and share my music." Lee also spoke about his new record Love Is The Great Rebellion "When I started writing the album I thought it was going to be an even more abstract, niche record than the last one..."

"I've always been a big believer in adjusting your course along the way," Lee said, "no concept should get in the way of what's actually unfolding." On the themes of this new record, Lee stated "the concepts and what I was writing about were quite radical in the sense that they're a lot about death and letting go, and psychological rebellion... In a way it was quite beautiful to contextualize these ideas in very accessible melodies..."

When asked about how he runs with his ideas, Lee said "Ultimately, when I look at why I'm still making records etc. it's because the music industry is my chosen psychological gymnasium... it's the place I go to learn. The very nature of learning is in not knowing... all these processes are where I'm attempting uncover something unknown."
