Nancy Pelosi victim to fake news as viral video shows her drunk

'MURICA — A video of U.S. House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi seemingly slurring her words during a Center for American Progress event has gone viral. But it turns out, someone just used some clever video editing to make her sound as if she was drunk.

According to CNN, a group called Politics WatchDog posted the doctored video on May 22.

The edited video was then shared extensively across social media sites such as Twitter, Youtube, and Facebook, reports The Washington Post.

It was picked up by the conservative media and even shared by Rudy Giuliani, President Trump's attorney, who tweeted: "What is wrong with Nancy Pelosi? Her speech pattern is bizarre." Giuliani has since deleted the tweet.

As soon as information about the manipulated clip got out, the LA Times reports that Youtube took down the clip.

However, it took Facebook more than a day to take down the same video, according to CNN. Explaining the delay, Facebook said they had to get their audio and digital forensics experts to verify that the video had been manipulated.

The video is currently still available on Facebook, even after confirmation that it was indeed altered. The Washington Post cites Facebook as saying that : "We don't have a policy that stipulates that the information you post on Facebook must be true."

Twitter declined to comment on the altered video and has yet to take any formal action, according to the LA Times.

This has raised questions about how prepared Facebook and other social media giants are for the 2020 elections.

The Washington Post reports that manipulated videos that go viral could shape public perception as we get closer and closer to the presidential elections next year.
