All In One Cake Method | Good Housekeeping UK

The all-in-one cake method is perfect if you need a cake in a hurry. Watch this step-by-step video to find out how.

Ingredients:
175g (6oz) butter, softened
175g (6oz) golden caster sugar
3 medium eggs
175g (6oz) self-raising flour, sifted
Milk (optional)

1. If you’re short of time, the ‘all in one’ method is much faster than the traditional ‘creamed sponge’ way of making a cake but results aren’t as light and airy. It’s hassle free, but does require your butter to be really soft. Food processors and handheld electric whisks make job even speedier.

2. Put butter, sugar, flour and eggs in a food processor. Make sure ingredients are at room temperature.

3. Mix ingredients on a medium speed, scraping sides of bowl with a spatula to make sure all ingredients are incorporated. Alternatively, put all ingredients in a large bowl and beat together with a handheld electric whisk. If mixture looks too thick, add a couple of tbsp water or milk to loosen.

4. Mix until well combined. Pour mixture into a greased and lined cake tin. Level with a spatula.

5. Bake at 180°C (160°C fan) mark 4 for 15-20min until springy to touch and golden. Leave to cool in tin for a few min, then turn cake out on to a wire rack and cool completely before serving.
