In Myanmar, Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were released from prison by
presidential pardon on Tuesday. The reporters were arrested in 2017 while investigating the
killing of Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State. The plight of the Pulitzer-prize-winning pair
gained international attention as an indicator of the limits on freedom of expression and
democratic rights in Myanmar.
