Donald Trump on Wednesday brought infamous boxing promoter and convicted murderer Don King with him to campaign in Ohio on Wednesday, and it predictably sparked a good deal of controversy.

While introducing Trump at the Cleveland-based church of Pastor Darrell Scott, King talked about why black voters should come out and support Trump’s candidacy. Although King’s point wasn’t entirely clear, he seemed to be saying that black voters had been given bad advice about how to succeed for years, and that it was time to try something completely new with Trump.

“We need Donald Trump, especially black people, because we have to understand, brothers and sisters, they tried to tell me you have to emulate and imitate the white man and then you can be successful,” he said. “I told Michael Jackson, if you are poor, you are a poor negro… if you are rich, you are a rich negro. If you are a talented intellectual, you are an intellectual negro. If you are a dancing and sliding and gliding n*gger… I mean, negro… you are a dancing and sliding and gliding negro.”

Trump sat right behind King as he delivered his remarks and had a smile on his face the entire time.
