Cyclone Fani:As Cyclone Fani moved closer, the West Bengal government sounded an alert in coastal East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas districts, asking tourists to leave seaside destinations and directing fishermen not to venture into the sea. Schools have been asked to stay closed and locals to move to safer places as the state braces for the extremely severe cyclonic storm, which is expected to make its landfall in neighbouring Odisha on Friday.A senior official said alert was also sounded in neighbouring West Midnapore, North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hoogly districts, in Jhargram and the Sundarbans, besides Kolkata.

మూడు రోజులుగా ఉత్తరాంధ్రవాసులకు కంటి మీద కునుకు లేకుండా చేసిన ఫొని తుఫాన్ శ్రీకాకుళం జిల్లా వద్ద తీరాన్ని దాటుకుంది. శ్రీకాకుళం జిల్లాలో తీరాన్ని తాకనప్పటికీ.. అతి సమీపం నుంచి ఒడిశా వైపు కదులుతోంది. ఒడిశా సరిహద్దుల్లోకి ప్రవేశించింది. ప్రస్తుతం బంగాళాఖాతంలో పూరీ తీరానికి 65 కిలోమీటర్ల దూరంలో కేంద్రీకృతమై ఉంది. ఈ సమయంలో దాని వేగం గంటకు 12 కిలోమీటర్లుగా నమోదవుతోందని వాతావరణ శాఖ అధికారులు తెలిపారు.
