Cyclone ‘Phani’ intensified into a ‘severe cyclonic storm’ on Monday evening and is headed towards the Odisha coast, the IMD said. It could take a shape of an extremely severe cyclone by Wednesday, prompting the government to put the National Disaster Response Force and the Indian Coast Guard on high alert, officials said.

పెను తూఫానుగా మారిన ఫొని ముప్పు ఉత్తరాంధ్రకు తప్పింది. ఒడిశా తీరంవైపు కదులుతున్న ఫొని అక్కడే తీరం దాటే అవకాశమున్నట్లు వాతావరణ శాఖ ప్రకటించింది. మే 4న తుఫాను ఒడిశా తీరం దాటి బెంగాల్ వైపు కదులుతుందని స్పష్టం చేసింది. అయితే ఫొని కోస్తా తీరం వెంట పయనించే సమయంలో అంటే మే 3, 4 తేదీల్లో ఉత్తరాంధ్రలో భారీ నుంచి అతి భారీ వర్షాలు కురిసే అవకాశముందని అధికారులు చెబుతున్నారు.
