Maximum city, maximum apathy? Why didn’t more Mumbaikars vote?

Lok Sabha Elections 2019, Mumbai: Maximum city, minimum concern for the democratic process?
Mumbai is one of the cities that voted today and as you would expect the voter turn out was a star studded one with a whole galaxy of Bollywood stars and other celebrities coming out to exercise their franchise. While they were at it they also urged other Mumbaikars to come out and vote. So we saw many of the A listers from Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit to Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and the entire Bachchan family casting their votes. Of course the city saw a fair amount of stardust in the electoral arena too with Urmila Matondkar, who only recently joined politics contesting these elections. Kangana Ranaut controversy's favourite child kicked up yet another storm hile making a political remark after casting her vote. However those appeals made by the film stars perhaps didn't quite have the desired impact with Mumbai registering a voter turnout of just about 50%, pretty disappointing for the financial capital of the country. A city whose residents are among the highest taxpayers in the country and who otherwise seem to have strong views on everything including crumbling infrastructure, potholes and collapsing bridges. But today when they had the opportunity to participate in the country's democratic process, many of them specially those in south Mumbai home to many of the most affluent Indians chose to go on a vacation thanks to the long weekend instead of staying back to caste their votes.
