S. Korea to celebrate 4.27 inter-Korean summit anniversary at Panmunjeom on Saturday

One year ago today, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had their first-ever summit on the Southern side of the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjeom.
To mark the anniversary, the Seoul government is holding a commemorative event there this evening.

South Korea is holding a commemorative event at the inter-Korean truce village of Panmunjeom on Saturday evening... to celebrate the anniversary of the historic first Moon-Kim summit on April 27th last year.
The event is titled "The Long Road," to remind people that even though we still stand far from peace, the road to peace has to be taken.
"The event has two meanings. First is that we're all remembering the April 27th summit last year. We have invited foreign envoys in South Korea, students and residents to the event today. Second is that we are showing our determination to implement the Panmunjeom Declaration. Lots of work remains to be done, and we will be proactively working on it."
Special stages will be set up at several spots around Panmunjeom where Moon and Kim met.
Artists from South Korea, the U.S., Japan and China will be putting on art and music performances.
"You are part of a culture and a country that has lasted hundreds and hundreds of years. There is this trouble of wanting to be together and having great difficulties. I'd have no idea about the depth of what needs to be accomplished but what I do have is a burning desire to do what I can do from my life and my background to help."
"I think music is one of the few things in this world that can united all of us and it really celebrates what we have in common. I hope this concert spreads this beauty of all of us and I hope one day there shall be peace on this peninsula."
However, Saturday's event is not a joint one with North Korea.
And the North was not part of the planning efforts.
Seoul notified Pyeongyang on Monday that a commemorative event is taking place... but Pyeongyang has not responded.
Seoul says it would have been better if the two Koreas could hold a joint event, but there were situational reasons why they couldn't.
